The Australian National University (ANU) has joined forces with the US-based technology company Ripple to offer blockchain legal courses through a “Master Program”.
Exploring the impact of blockchain on the legal field
According to the announcement made on March 31 by Ripple, there are two new courses that will explore the impact of blockchain technology on the legal industry.
These courses will be launched with the help of the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) of Ripple. According to the announcement, the Australian National University is in collaboration with the Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative to initiate two new courses next year in its Master Program and Ripple’s UBRI will supervise these courses.
While commenting on the development, the entrepreneurial fellow at the ANU School of Law Scott Chamberlain says that these blockchain-related courses will help students to understand the impact of distributed ledger technology (DLT) on the legal industry.
According to Scott, the blockchain technology will be used for various things. Various simple processes related to identity confirmation and interactions between parties can also be done with the help of the distributed ledger technology. Blockchain technology will help to improve the ability of people to discharge their obligations having a little bit of reliance on lawyers for legal disputes.
While explaining the legal dispute, he said:
[A legal dispute] deals with who are the legal identities that the law recognizes? What are the legal things that the law recognizes existing? What’s the relationship between people and things? And there’s a dispute resolution at the heart of it. When you look at the blockchain smart contract space, there’s projects doing all of those things.
The company Ripple has already been supporting such kind of initiatives of this university by providing some funds. Ripple provided $1 million in funding to the “Lex Automagica” platform back in February 2019.
